Hi All,
I am finally getting to write this guide for Santorini. It is one of my favorite places that I have had a chance to visit. Join me for a walk through one of the towns in Santorini, Fira (or Thera in Greek). And later in the post I am going to share a few tips from my trip.
It was so windy, hence why the hair is a complete mess ^^^^
Check off the bucket list, dancing on the rooftops of Greece!
PLACE TO STAY:
Thew two main neighborhoods that tourists tend to stay in are Oia and Fira. Oia is known for beautiful sunsets and the Instagram pictures/ Pinterest pins that you have pinned of people twirling next to the blue domes. But something that you don't know about Oia, is that it is VERY busy and crowded. Our guides/ and other tourists told us that you can barely get through the streets past 12pm during busy tourist seasons (May-Sept).
So if you are looking for a more peaceful , relaxing place, I would recommend Fira and trust me when I say, you will not sacrifice views or anything else by staying there. It's just as beautiful as Oia with many restaurants, shops, and breathtaking views. The pictures above were taken in Fira.
We stayed at a villa called Lithies Houses. It is a STUNNING place to stay with staff that will make you feel like you are part of a family. They are so welcoming and accommodating that we didn't want to leave.
THINGS TO DO :
See the Lighthouse
Take a drive to the monastery - it is located on the top of a hill and you can enjoy views from underneath the clouds (literally).
Go on a catamaran cruise - this can be more of a splurge but it takes up most of the day, you get to enjoy stunning views from water. For the more adventurous souls out there, you can take a swim in the volcanic craters / hot springs.
See Red Rocks Beach - if you are looking to spend time on a beach, this wouldn't be my recommendation but the red rocks cliffs are so unique and beautiful that I do recommend taking a drive or seeing it from a catamaran cruise at least.
Go see Ancient Akrotiri - if you are are seeking some history go on a tour of ancient Akrotiri.
Go on a wine tasting - I recommend Santo winery. It's one of the most known wineries in Santorini.
Ammoudi Bay - great place to dine and enjoy a sunset.
Go on a hike from Fira to Oia
Walk around Oia - there are many shops and restaurants so if you are not staying there I would definitely make it there for a few hours at least. If you plan to catch a sunset there, show up about 2 hours in advance to grab a good spot.
